According to the San Francisco Business Times the Starbucks at 123 Battery St. in San Francisco’s financial district, just across the street from another Starbucks, will be closed.

The two stores, just 32 paces apart (as measured by a San Francisco Business Times reporter), have often provoked amused comments from people in the Financial District. The larger of the two, at 295 California St., was previously a Torrefazione Italia café, a brand bought by Starbucks in July 2003 and reflagged in 2005 as a Starbucks.

Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) has been mocked by some critics for opening too many stores too fast and too close to each other. The company has been retrenching for a year, closing hundreds of “underperforming” stores.

Here is a list of the Starbucks cafes scheduled to close.
